A group of collective was conformed by Democracia, Todo por la Praxis and Recetas Urbanas, to construct in collaboration with El Fanal Association some bleachers for a soccer and recreational field. The space of intervention was located in a neighborhood with a complicated socioeconomic situation and a degraded external image due to the negative media campaign that received and it intensifies the exclusion and penalty reaction to the area.
The proposal was made creating different interventions on the organizational structure and the imaginary that exists about the neighborhood. The initiative was welcome with enthusiasm by the association members and many of the children they work with for over 10 years now. Also the project was executed in just 4 days, with the collaboration of several volunteers (the collective Morulas, Chris and Luís) that participated in this experience generating complicities. Besides that, the project converted a group of children in the main characters of a neighborhood that as result of it, can offer social inclusion and acceptance through the implementation of small scale interventions that improve their excluded surroundings. This last part is considered as one of the several reasons for the absence of public infrastructure.
Along with it, were reused a series of materials as: a metallic structure “ball-stick” (from LANIK company) that belonged to a housing prototype detachable and 60 platforms of scaffold that were saved from a scrapyard. Finally, it was also necessary for the process fasteners and fresh snacks to facilitate the speed of the construction in summer time.
Evaluation and Protocols
The work done by a group of collective that collaborated with an association that had a role as the speaker for a specific population group about the creation of a self-build public infrastructure; it was a work done in the moment that we began to generate this type of collaborations with other technical teams.
The understanding of the particular need of the social workers was not a point of discussion, besides of the provision of materials to reuse. All of these, allowed us a speed on the implementation of the project that it was absolutely necessary on these surroundings. Surroundings that were mainly characterized by the absence of intervention of the public administration. This absence led us to adopt a negative position about the option of legalize the project or ask for any type of construction permit that, for sure, would have a rejection answer or would produce a deceleration of the project.
That reminds me that many of the projects that we did not do with the accompaniment of the the public administration, at the end, were developed faster and with better results in their operations. On the final part remained on hold the tracking process of the maintenance of the project, releasing that role to the users and the Association El Fanal, the head collective group, that works on the place in a daily base. This aspect generated a difficulty on maintaining the relationships when tens of teams are collaborating. Nowdays, this monitoring process it is being stablished and committed from the beginning.
